SESSIONAL SUPPORT WORKER
(Lesbian, gay and bisexual people from black and minority ethnic communities)


Salary: £11.20 per hour
Hours: Variable (may involve day-time, evening or weekend sessions)
0 hours contract - probationary 3 months (renewable) to 31 March 2007 (may be extended beyond this date if funding is attained)

Due to the nature of the work within this post it is advertised in accordance with the Genuine Occupational Qualification arrangements of the Race Relations Act 1976 (Section 5(2)(d)).
The Centre for HIV and Sexual Health is an NHS agency promoting sexual health and well being with individuals, communities and agencies in Sheffield and across the UK. Our work is involved in reducing teenage pregnancy, HIV and STI prevention, sex and relationships education, work with young people, lesbian, gay and bisexual communities, IV drug users, people living with HIV and people from black and minority ethnic communities.


The Centre for HIV & Sexual Health is looking to appoint to the above post to develop a support group for lesbian, gay and bisexual people from black and minority ethnic communities. This initiative forms part of the Centre's HIV prevention and broader sexual health strategy with gay and bisexual men in Sheffield.
Briefly, the post holder will liase with statutory / voluntary agencies re the needs of lesbian, gay and bisexual people from black and minority ethnic communities, and will support the development of a support group for lesbian, gay and bisexual people from black and minority ethnic communities.
You will have experience of working with sexual health issues in a voluntary or paid capacity. You will have experience of group work and have well developed facilitation skills. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the key issues that affect the health and well being of lesbian, gay and bisexual people from black and minority ethnic communities.
It is a GOQ that the post holder(s) will be from a Black or Minority Ethnic Community.
